I think I've figured out part of the problem. See, in previous years, I wished to be the person people in the AP/VA space want to work with, but I neglected to include "and then actually do work with."

So THIS year, I wish to be someone people in that space work with AND enjoy doing so.

Then run it as a not-for-profit. When the tax code was sane, companies only got tax write-offs for money spent on R&D, and the government subsidized a lot of that both directly and through university research.

I went outside this weekend. Had a nice Cubano at a beachside cafe. Spent a few hours hanging out with friends. Sat on a park bench for like ten minutes while they dipped their toes in the surf. Result: I have a sunburn.

Ten minutes. Sunburn. Worth it, but still, this is why I don't go outside.
