Yet even in Aspec circles, we often forget the loveless Aros, and aplatonic folks - for whom Palentines and alt-Valentines focused events still end up excluding. This is not at all to say romantic love is invalid or evil- not at all! But amatonormativity is!

I poke fun at Valentine’s Day as a reminder that romance is not necessarily the end goal for everyone. It’s promising to see so many more alt-Valentines events and things like Palentines which recognize we should be appreciative of ALL relationships in our lives, not just the romantic ones!

As someone who is aromantic, and extremely aware of how amatonormative structures erase the lived experiences of not only aromantic folks, but also aplatonic experiences, folks in polyam and ENM relationships, folks practicing relationship anarchy, and so many others.
