Unrelated to mim itself, but this is also the first preprint I've prepared in @typst.app rather than LaTeX. It was soooo much nicer. Folks; what are we doing? Why don't our journals accept manuscript sources in Typst!
Ok; mim (github.com/COMBINE-lab/...) preprint submitted! Excited for folks to see it and share thoughts. The key takeaway; mim allows the quick, one-time, building of a small auxiliary index that then allows scaling gzipped FASTQ parsing linearly in # of threads. 1/2

We may need to write a post examining these differences more closely in the future
This article by Philipp Hagenlocher is a good reference for some of the real usability problems in LaTeX that are part of why I love @typst.app so much. Typst is able to lose the legacy baggage and design an actually ergonomic system from the start.
Is LaTeX worth it?
A critique of academia's typesetting darling, LaTeX. Is its widespread usage really evidence of its inherent superiority?

Using Typst to autogenerate PDFs is pretty popular. And many of you ARE DOING IT WRONG!! We have put together a new blog post with the best approach to PDF generation using Typst (hint: don't use an external script to generate Typst markup).

Found it 20 mins ago but @typst.app is sooooo good.
I can't believe I have spent the best half of my studies fighting with word for my coding courses.

If you ever have used word, this is all you need to hear:
You write `#outline(title: "Table Of Contents", depth: 1)` and it just... works.

Typst is, as far as im concerned, at the center of latex (rendering), markdown (ease to learn), and HTML (incredibly powerful styling abilities. It's quite incredible, and it's so, so, so fast.

I have a 60k words document with dozens of figures and hundreds of refs. It renders _in real time_.
