But since the whole Redis cluster was restarted at once, the nodes all had new IPs and could not discover each other, so we had to manually establish their new IPs.

Normally, Redis clusters have a self-healing capability. As long as some nodes have retained their IP, they can reach out to them and learn about the new IP addresses. Hence, if the cluster restarts container by container, it remains operable even when all IPs change.

However, the Redis database containers failed to terminate gracefully, so their VMs remained online for a grace period up to a total running time of 90 days. After these 90 days expired, all stale VMs running Redis containers were forcefully shut down at once.

The internal communication between our backend servers happens via a Redis cluster which runs in an AKS Kubernetes cluster. Recently, Azure has tried to reclaim the underlying VMs to automatically update their host operating system and the kubelet (Kubernetes component) on them.

I've invested a lot into LaTeX in the last few years and didn't feel a strong desire to pivot, but I just tried @typst.app and I'm an immediate convert

The compilation speed is so nice and it's so much easier to understand
