“Hell is empty and all the devils are here.”

If ever the gates to Hell were closed, they were unlocked and thrown wide by the willful, the ignorant, and the willfully ignorant. We had a chance, for a brief, shining moment, to contain the damage wrought from the first attempt at fascism.
“Hell is empty and all the devils are here.” If ever the gates to Hell were closed, they were unlocked and thrown wide by the willful, the ignorant, and the willfully ignorant. We had a chance, for a brief, shining moment, to contain the damage wrought from the first attempt at fascism. To take a welding torch to the gates so they might stay sealed in perpetuity. The means to that end were handed to us on a silver platter, offered up by loyal servants of the people, for the people, and by the people. “Hell is empty and all the devils are here.” Cowardice and greed, the lust for power. Those first demons wore smug faces, offering catchy turns of phrase and glib retorts in response to the woes of the least of our people. Old, doddering fools encased in the filth of their ways with naught but the desire to wave away our concerns with stuttering nonsense. Their Christ had come. They seized the opportunity to grasp power with both leprous fists and, by God, make everyone pay for every perceived sleight, for every forcible look into their souls. “Hell is empty and all the devils are here.” Their discolored Christ did not come wearing even a rotting mask of decency; he embraced them as he was. Traitorous. Cancerous. His interest in women and children was not divine. He enriched the money changers. He snatched food from the poor. He welcomed all the wretched, squirming things from the shadows to spread their false testimonies under the banner of his gospel. He ministered to the imprisoned and the incarcerated, setting them free to serve in his depraved name. He emboldened them. Armed them. And then simply, with a flick of his wrist and the keys handed willfully to him, he opened the gates to gleefully bathe in the inferno as it rushed to devour our world. “Hell is empty and all the devils are here.” A skeletal rider weaves its pale horse among us, emotionless, cold. It roams at the epicenters for now, guided by the screams and wails of the kidnapped, the assaulted, the Witnesses. Soon, and maybe some day very soon, those bony fingers will reach across this land to even the most sheltered places. Its envoy, Fear, already rides swift and sure. Do we go about our daily lives? Do we bear Witness to what is unfolding, or might unfold? Can we trust our neighbor, the one who proudly flies what should be a sign of democracy? Do we exist as we want to exit, as we need to exist, as we truly are while knowing the simmering hatred thrust upon us might whip the hyenas into a frenzy to tear us limb from limb? What is our choice in this moment and all the moments to come? What are we willing to do, and what price are we willing to pay? As for me, let the devils come.

With ICE ramping up in nearby "big" cities, I really think it's a matter of "when" and not "if" they come over here.

So I've prepped a... media bag, I guess? I have my DLSR camera, DJI mini drone, mask, cell phone bank, etc. packed and ready. Just need a whistle and first aid kit.
