building the bicycle up in Berlin, traveling to Italy by train, joining a friend I met while cycling to Istanbul last year, cycling to the ocean on my own, accidentally meeting kind people at Venice and spontaneously returning to Berlin with them.

Stay tuned, take it slow, and be part of team 161 🚩
I‘m so proud and thankful that everything worked out..
With the help of a friend who loves pottering around too, I managed to assemble it in a diy workshop and went on my first little bikepacking trip immediately. There wasn‘t even time for a proper test run (which I wouldn‘t recommend, but I didn’t have a choice/enough time).

Within the past three weeks this beautiful #8bar gravelbike went from a bunch of seperate components to a proper gravelbike, from Berlin to northern Italy & back.

Back to Berlin I didn‘t feel like going back home by train so I decided to cycle instead. Seemed like a decent way of ending my first bikepacking holiday with my new #8bar gravel bicycle to me :)

Luckily, when I arrived at the Venetian campside I saw three people at my age packing their tent and stuff into a van. Following their licence plate they were from Berlin. And guess what? They had a bicycle rack and some space left in the car for me. Also, they were super friendly <3

This worked perfectly fine in 🇫🇷, German, and 🇮🇹 trains in the past.

Shortly before leaving I realized that in Austrian long-distance trains solely folding bicycles count as hand luggage, though.

Sometimes strange & lucky things happen when traveling by bicycle..

For the return to Germany all bicycle space in the Austrian EuroCity was booked out. Therefore, I only bought tickets for myself and planned disassembling my bicycle in order to put it in a bag so it would count as hand luggage.
Vito and Umberto both fought and died for a society free of fascism. We cannot prevent from happening again what we do not remember. So let’s remember Vito and Umberto.

Siamo tutti antifascisti 🚩⚒️

Vito Salvigni and Umberto Fussi were killed by German nazis during a battle in the woods “Pineta di Classe” at the age of 22 and 24 shortly before the liberation of Ravenna by the British army on December 4, 1944.
The Garavini detachment (named after their commander Settimio Garavini who was liaison officer with the British allies and has been executed by the Germans on January 14, 1944) joined the 28th Gaibaldi Mario Gordini Brigade in October 1944
Vito Salvigni (born on October 3, 1922) and Umberto Fussi (born on June 11, 1920) fought against the German fascists in the Garavini detachment.

On my way from Cervia to Ravenna in the midst of the pine forest of Classe (described in the Divine Comedy by Dante who lived in Ravenna) I stumbled upon a memorial for two young antifascist partisans.

The term was adopted by the rightist and nationalist political movement led by Benito Mussolini from 1922-1943/45.
