16 year old John Baker dies after falling 14ft from a plank he was stood on whilst cleaning the analysing column of a still at Phoenix Park Distillery, Chapelizod, Dublin.
Ownef by DCL, the site opened in 1878 and closed in 1921.

One of the lower hoops failed on a vat & its contents lost.
Founded in 1818, it survived until the 1850's and was reported be in a ruinous state by 1859

'No man was more respected in his community'. He took over sole ownership of the distillery in 1867, and it is now among the largest and finest in the North.

A large-scale illicit distillery is found at Haugh Glen on the Duchal Estate, Inverclyde.
Located within masses of rock the site contained an 80 gallon still & 13 casks full of spirit.
Unfortunately the felons were nowhere to be found.

Malcolm Gillespie or 'Gillespie The Gauger' was executed by hanging in the outdoor gallows of Aberdeen. He had been convicted of forging treasury bills.
During his 28 years of work he seized over of 20,000 gallons of spirit.

However this wouldn't arrive until 1889 as Charles was yet to be born when the distillery first opened!
