If you or someone you know loves Japanese yōkai and mythical beasties, _The Book of Japanese Folklore_ by Thersa Matsuura ✨ might be a fun idea.

Ordering through a local or indie bookstore would be super dreamy, but the Amaz affiliate link is below, too.

What's hilarious is as we were talking he was slowly shutting the door (from the outside). He knows I'm going to ask and probably doesn't want to hear it. 😂

I've asked before at weed pulling events and he says he has no idea just sold the land. We got a notice they're going to start doing work on underground water pipes that lead from the land, so my guess is it's still happening. 😢

Good morning, evening, middle of the night 🌅~

Huge ol' typhoon* off the coast brings some very beautiful sunsets.

*This one isn't going to hit us directly. But there is another one on its tail! That one looks more ambitious.
beautiful orange glowing sunset over black houses.

The farmer behind us brought us some freshly harvested rice. He gives a bag to all the houses surrounding his fields. 💕🍚

Yes! The belief is that a rabbit is on the moon pounding mochi rice. So you'll always see rabbits and full moons together. The Snoopy mooncakes with the lantern is pure genius🙌!

For October, I'm doing a couple #ghost #stories for the #Halloween season.

My rendition of what the Super Harvest Moon looked like last night at three am. Two photos from my phone and some tomfoolery*

Photos of the moon never capture that magical zing of being there. I tried 🌝.

*not ai!, just me and my ipad
photo of full moon but it's insanely large.

My next #MythologyMonday book recommendation is 'The Book of Japanese Folklore' by Thersa Matsuura (@uncannyjapan.bsky.social). It introduces a collection of yokai with Thersa's wonderful storytelling and gorgeous illustrations by Michelle Wang. She's also got a #yokai oracle deck on the way.
Front cover of 'The Book of Japanese Folklore' Illustration of a white nine-tailed fix and red torii in a forest. Illustration of a tengu, winged being with long red nose. Open page of book with text about bakeneko and nekomata and illustration to match.

OoohOOoohh~~ Thank you, CuriousO🙏! I haven't been hanging out on The Socials, too much. I miss bumping into you and exchanging cool stuff. 😊

I used to a lot more when J was little. I'd scoop him up and say, we're going to the beach to eat and watch the moon! I miss those days. I tried to with R yesterday but we were slammed getting the episode out. Maybe a day late? Try tonight? Did see it early in the am though!

It was gorgeous clear skies all day long, then when it started to get dark the clouds came out. I got to see it high in the sky much later. Tonight's the Super Harvest Moon, I believe. Fingers crossed the clouds don't roll in again.

Same. We visited two of the houses I grew up in (South Carolina and Alabama) not too long ago. Both had huge forests behind them where I was allowed to be a wild child and live my magical little life. Both are totally paved over suburbs now. Travesty is the best word. Sorry your fields are gone😢
uncannyjapan.bsky.social
Small joys. I'm happy to wake up to this. Still *knock on wood* no movement on the houses that are supposed to be going up any day now.
blue, blue sky with white fluffy clouds. Foreground are some rice fields and weed fields.

That beeping used to drive me NUTS back in the day. Hearing it here and there and everywhere, seemingly randomly throughout the day. Then I figured out, it's the back up sound of the rice harvester. When they do corners they need to back up a little. Beep! Beep! Beep!

Yes, love that. The fall festivals are my favorite. The chaff is also used in all kinds of things, even fermenting/pickling vegetables.
uncannyjapan.bsky.social
Yes! All the fields around me goldened up and time to harvest. The farmer behind me (mixed feelings because he sold half his fields to house builders) just rang my doorbell and gave me a bag. 💕

When I opened the box and squealed, you were the first person I thought about 🙌
uncannyjapan.bsky.social
When a friend shows up at your door with a box and says enjoy! They aren't kidding✨.

Slimes! Filled with a light custardy mousse and blueberries. Sooo freaking yummy😋
Slime shaped cakes in red and blue. Blue slime cake. Bite taken out.

So glad he's okay🍀. And so nice they didn't have to take you in the back to harvest a kidney like they do in the US after they hand you the bill.

I know! I wake up every morning with my heart in my throat. My neighbor said they'd start in earnest in September, but all they did was clear out the weeds. I'm hoping it fell through again, but I saw some men in suits looking at the land and pointing the other day. Not sure what that means. 😑
uncannyjapan.bsky.social
Literally. Me. Right now. I just got off an hour long jaunt about toys little boys played with in the Edo Era. This is for a single sentence in a short story.

I love that the sky is heavy with rain the day I have to write my Ameonna (Rain Woman) short story.
darkish blue sky, a house or two, yellow rice fields in the middle and foreground is green weeds.
