School support staff are often the people who bring energy, warmth and connection into a school. One nominee told us about a colleague who creates clubs, supports young carers and builds inclusive spaces where every child feels they belong. Their humour and care shape the wellbeing of the school. ⭐

School support staff across Wales have been pushing for a fair way to decide their pay and conditions. Low wages and the injustice of term-time only pay cannot be fixed without a dedicated national system that works for Wales.

Why we celebrate stars in our schools! ✨

Every school has stars. These are the support staff who keep children safe, help them learn and make sure schools run smoothly. Teaching assistants, ALN specialists, caterers, librarians and admin teams are the people who hold school communities together.

“It was won because workers organised, raised collective grievances and, in some areas, prepared for industrial action.

“A massive UNISON win on an all-Wales level – and proof of what’s possible when workers stand together.”

“Around 7,000 workers will now move to this salary scale, with back pay to recognise the vital clinical work they’ve been doing.

“This long-overdue win delivers justice for a predominantly female, low-paid workforce who keep NHS services running every day.

Cefndy Healthcare is at risk of closure. Councillors are ready to scrap skilled manufacturing jobs and a lifeline workplace for disabled workers rather than invest in a service that supports our NHS and our community.

Cefndy Healthcare has been left to struggle and now some in the council want to walk away. Instead of investing in a service that provides skilled, secure and dignified work for disabled people while producing essential equipment for hospitals, they are proposing closure and ignoring the human cost.
