No one should have to choose between saying goodbye to a loved one and keeping their job. That's why Lavish Roots dining workers like Odine are organizing the union at Meta's Washington campus.
Tell LAvish Roots:
Respect US “This spring, I got a call that my mother was likely in her last days of life. I had very little accrued leave time, so I was going to get attendance points for every day of work that I missed to go be with her. But because she is my mother, I had to see her. While I stayed with her, I was so worried about my job that I called and asked HR if I could use bereavement leave to cover the time I was away. They told me no – I could only use it after she passed. Grief and loss of a parent is hard enough; on top of that, I had to worry about losing my job. I’m organizing to win our union because no one should have to face the disrespect I experienced at the time I lost my mother.” Odine Valente,

Dining workers from Lavish Roots at Meta met with Bellevue deputy mayor Mo Malakoutian to discuss why they are organizing to join our union and why the City of Bellevue should support workers' right to organize. Thank you for standing with Washington workers!

The hotel and airline bankrolled challenge to the Olympic wage *did not qualify* for the ballot according to the LA County Registrar.

This means the city’s Olympic wage ordinance , $25/hour beginning this year and $30/hour by 2028, goes into effect for tourism workers immediately

I was glad to join dozens of elected leaders around the region as a signatory of this letter in support of food service workers at local Meta offices in Bellevue and Redmond.

BREAKING: 40 elected leaders sent a letter to Lavish Roots and Meta urging them to be neutral and respect workers’ desire to form a union. Over 200 Lavish workers who prepare and serve meals for Meta employees in WA state are organizing, and our elected leaders have our backs!
DEAR MR. ZUCKERBERG, META LEADERSHIP, AND MR. LAVIELLE,
We are writing as elected leaders representing communities in the Puget Sound region at
various levels of government. We urge you to remain neutral and respect the desire expressed
by food service workers at Meta offices in Bellevue and Redmond, WA, who are employed by
Lavish Roots, to organize a union without fear, intimidation and employer interference.
Many of the workers preparing and serving food and drink to Meta employees are our
constituents and we support them as they organize for basic safety, stability, equality and
respect. We believe that unions are essential in ensuring that working people in the service
industry have a path to sustaining themselves in a region that is faced with a rise in the cost of
living and income inequality.
We are looking forward to working collaboratively with you on this issue. Please don’t hesitate
to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.
Sincerely,

Thank you Congresswoman Jayapal for listening to Lavish Roots workers who cook and serve food at Meta! For Abdul, a dishwasher, “This letter demonstrates that the concerns we face are not ours alone. It lends us the courage that we must summon every day to transform our lives.”
Dear Mr. Zuckerberg, Mr. LaVielle, and Ms. Seth:
I recently learned that Lavish Roots employees are organizing a union with UNITE HERE Local 8. These
workers prepare and serve meals for workers at Meta Platforms offices in Seattle, Bellevue, and
Redmond.
I have heard from my constituents that they are asking for higher wages to meet the cost of living, better
and more affordable healthcare, and standards to promote safety, stability, equality and respect on the job.
I have also heard that workers have called on Lavish Roots and Meta Platforms to remain neutral in this
process and respect workers’ right to organize.
Given that it is the policy of the United States to facilitate collective bargaining under the National Labor
Relations Act (NLRA), I respectfully urge you to work collaboratively with UNITE HERE Local 8 and
bargain in good faith to reach a fair contract in a timely manner if the union is recognized.
It is my belief that coming to a timely agreement will benefit both parties involved. I will continue to
follow this process closely and appreciate your attention to this pressing matter.
Sincerely,

Meet Shakira. Ten years ago, she was living in a shelter with her three kids, working at a non-union hotel.

Now she's a member of HTC.

Unions are how working people can build a dignified life. But in a city as expensive as ours, they need local government on their side.
