While 2024 hasn't been the easiest year to many, including myself, it certainly hasn't stopped me exploring many transport networks, some even outside the UK! Thank you to all those who have supported me and to the new friends I have made along the way... Take it easy, and I'll see you all in 2025!
A postcard of 30 photos, showing many different forms of transport taken over a year. It includes various local buses, classic diesel locomotives, TGV high speed trains, retro electric traction, Nottingham Trams & a plethora of metro trains.

Thank you Zack, it's fantastic to be onboard!

Tackling the climate crisis and stopping our reliance on fossil fuels is the only way worsening inequality and imperialism can be finished for good, and right now, the Greens are the only party to offer this at the core of their policy...
urbanist318.bsky.social
After much consideration, I have joined the Greens! I was skeptical at first, especially with the promise of Your Party but the subsequent chaos before founding and the results Zack Polanski and his team have been delivering have shown me that Green is the way forward! 💚
A message from the green party sent to new members after joining.

Ever since I finished Question Time, Reform have massively been on the attack.

Including a rant from Richard Tice entirely designed to distract from Reform and Russia.

Everyone should know about Nathan Gill, the bribes from Russia and the link to Reform.

Terrible idea. Not least because Abertram is an epic sounding name!

When was it built? Looks to be in good condition!
urbanist318.bsky.social
As someone there, it was definitely more than that. We must not underestate the threat the far right pose. Sitting down with a cuppa, calculator & the drone footage would be a good move to get a more reliable estimate however. The numbers are all over the place!

The rise and rise of extreme day tripping sees Tui offering day trips to Lapland.

www.independent.co.uk/travel/news-... “Day trips to Lapland feel in especially bad taste as flight emissions will directly contribute to damaging the place you are going to see.”

Does that make 3 with the refurb now? It seems they're doing them in number order, at least with the /5s. 502 has had the treatment too!

The real reason people are so anti Net Zero is because energy prices, regardless of generation source, are set on the highest unit price of natural gas in Britain, even if the cost of renewables is far less! This must change!

Not nessecarily, take a look at Paris and the wider Île de France region. They previously used a zonal system for the RER/suburban network. They now operate a 2,50€ flat rate which is far less than what people in (often deprived) outer zones were paying previously. Is that not a progressive idea?
urbanist318.bsky.social
Glad I caught it when I did! I wish they'd paint one up permanently like NCT's 603 though, Queer people exist for 12 months a year of course!

The models look nice but there's far more variety in OMSI maps and buses...

Good question. I think that small taxes on parking along the line could help. Perhaps a minor increase in fuel duty could pay for public transport improvements and encourage modal shift?

I'm delighted to see the return of al fresco dining and drinking to St Martin’s Lane in the heart of the West End.

The road will be car-free from 11am–11pm every day until the end of October, giving Londoners and visitors the space to enjoy outdoor dining and socialising 🍽️

If that's the case, why not just build fixed 6 car sets? you could boost capacity by removing the two redundant cabs! Even if operational needs demand seperate units at times, platforms could always be extended to accommodate the longer trains...

Bluesky @bsky.app · Aug 22
Unfortunately, Bluesky is unavailable in Mississippi right now, due to a new state law that requires age verification for all users.

While intended for child safety, we think this law poses broader challenges & creates significant barriers that limit free speech & harm smaller platforms like ours.

While Coventry (a city with twice the population) continues to umm and ahh over their VLR project, Le Havre in France has had a two line system with full sized trams for over a decade now. There's even a 3rd new line under construction! Do better UK...
A white Alstom Citadis tram sits at a terminus stop in Le Havre. In the background are mid-rise buildings in what can be described as a "sympathetic-brutalist" style. A creamy colored Citadis tram - matching with the buildings in the background - glides through a grassy section of tracks in Le Havre. In the background are a number of flags including the EU and France.

The fire in Edinburgh is a grim reminder that the climate crisis is happening on our doorstep.

And it's our high-carbon, high-consumption lifestyles that are exacerbating it...

We must rethink our lifestyle choices and urgently reduce our reliance on flights.

My local bakery sadly burnt down but they used to do these big circular breads cut into triangles! A bit like if a pizza was made of bread dough and had no toppings...

Credit to SNCF Voyageurs today. I missed a connection due to a late train however a bus was provided for the branch line, ensuring everyone reached their final destination and the trains on said branch remained on time!

Nottingham person here, it's because we're too inland! Genuinely though, this was a great thing growing up as it was an opportunity for more disadvantaged families to have something nice to do over summer, on the cheap. It's a shame the fountains are tuned off though!
