Associate Professor, Bronson School
of Nursing, Western Michigan University

Dr. Angela Groves is an Associate Professor in the Bronson School of Nursing at Western Michigan University. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Ursuline College, a Master of Science in Nursing from Indiana State University, and a PhD in Nursing from Hampton University. She is a Certified Nurse Educator and board-certified in medical-surgical nursing.
Dr. Groves’s research focuses on eliminating health disparities among midlife and older African American women with hypertension. Her current work examines a dyadic peer-support intervention designed to improve dietary adherence and reduce blood pressure in this population. She has secured both foundation and institutional funding to advance this research and has published peer-reviewed articles on hypertension in African American women. Most recently, she was awarded a pilot grant from the Michigan Center for Urban African American Aging Research (MCUAAAR) to investigate the relationships among stress, coping, and diet adherence in older African American women with hypertension.
