We believe in a Utah where communities, not politicians, choose their representation. This process and the map passed today have once again revealed a legislature either unwilling or incapable of honoring that principle. Read Chair Brian King's full statement.
“Governor Cox said it himself during the 2021 redistricting process: Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.
“That statement feels more relevant than ever. After years of court battles, after a landmark Utah Supreme Court decision affirming voters’ right to reform their government, and after overwhelming public demand for fair and representative districts, the Utah Legislature has once again chosen partisan self-preservation over public trust.
“Let’s be clear: this map was engineered by and for Republican politicians to entrench their power. Utah GOP leadership has openly acknowledged that this version is the only one that would ‘defeat Democrats.’ There is no amount of statistical spin or rushed legislative process that can hide their true intentions: to continue rigging the game in their party’s favor.

"Utah students and educators deserve better...Demonizing educators does not “build community.” It divides us, and it distracts from the urgent work of helping children learn, grow and thrive."

Opinion: Schools deserve safety, not scapegoating
The Utah GOP chair's divisive rhetoric in the wake of the Charlie Kirk shooting puts the safety of our children at risk.

Unlike the Utah GOP, we're encouraging Utahns to participate and share their voices, not coaching them on which map would advantage us. This isn't about fairness or following the law, this is about Republicans admitting they're terrified of competitive districts where voters actually have a choice.

Chair King’s statement on the passing of LDS Church President Russell M. Nelson.
Statement on Passing of LDS Church President Russell M. Nelson

“I am saddened by the death of Russell M. Nelson. When he was called as an apostle in 1984, I distinctly recall how impressed I was with his background. How wonderful and appropriate it was that this man who had saved so many lives as a heart surgeon would be working to save lives spiritually. I loved how President Nelson spoke consistently and eloquently about how we can move forward for the better not just individually, but as communities, a state, and a country. He consistently advocated for being peacemakers, caring for the less fortunate, looking for opportunities to serve others, and acting for the common good. I’ll miss his warm smile, his genuine concern for others, his effective mix of humor and directness in his addresses. The world has truly lost a spiritual giant. I’m grateful we all had a chance to learn from his teachings and example.”

238 years ago, the United States Constitution was signed in Philadelphia. Today, it is under attack by self-serving, corrupt politicians. While elected Republicans aid and abet this assault, Democrats are fighting every day for Utahns’ constitutional rights, and against Trump’s authoritarianism.

BREAKING: The Utah Supreme Court once again rejected the Legislature’s desperate attempt to drag its feet on redistricting, denying the supermajority’s request for a stay of the Third District Court ruling. That means the timeline for new congressional maps stays in place.
BREAKING NEWS: Utah Supreme Court Denies Legislature’s Request for Stay in Redistricting Case

“Today’s ruling is yet another rebuke of the Utah Legislature’s blatant disregard for the will of the people. The courts have made it clear: Republican politicians don’t get to stall, delay, or rig the process to protect their own power. Fair maps are coming, and they will be in place by November 10th.

This is a victory for Utahns who demanded change when they passed Proposition 4, and a defeat for politicians who think they can silence voters with gerrymandered maps. For too long, Republican lawmakers have chosen their voters instead of the other way around. That ends now, and we’re ready to hit the ground running once these maps are in place.”

We are grateful to Chair King for offering the closing prayer at today’s vigil. In moments of tragedy, it’s powerful to see people come together across party lines. Violence has no place in our politics, and we remain committed to building a future rooted in respect, peace, and care for one another.
