Toby Talbot brought unmatched passion, intellect & taste to the NY film scene. Our effort to bring back the Metro & restore a wider range of art film exhibition to the neighborhood is in no small way inspired by the legacy of Toby & Dan. She will be sorely missed.

#NYFF "emerged from the pandemic with renewed vigor because of new and younger audiences." It's those younger audiences that are helping arthouses thrive across the country. Exciting!

First it was the Midtown, then the Metro and Metro Twin. NOW, UWS Cinema Center (our nonprofit entity) is getting ready to announce our NEW FILM CENTER NAME on October 28th! We're counting down the days!

Only one film distributed by a streamer made the @nytimes.com top 100 list, "Roma." "It's a vivid illustration of the how the movies that stick with us tend to be those we have a theatrical experience with" --Kyle Buchanan, NYTimes
So grateful to Director #FrankOz for his participation in our pop-up summer screening series & endorsement of our UWS Cinema Center project!

We may not have a theater yet, but we are joining in on the celebration of Art House Theater Day, July 24th. We encourage you to visit local art houses, which in our neck of the woods includes Film at Lincoln Center, Maysles Doc. Center, New Plaza Cinema and many more downtown and in Brooklyn.

Wonderful having #FrankOz for a 2nd Q&A during our pop-up summer series "For the Love of Cinema"--for #TheMuppetMovie & #Bowfinger. What an extraordinary range of acting & directorial prowess! Heartwarming & lovable or howlingly funny, Oz truly celebrates movie magic.

Or at least, one of MANY reasons the Arthouse experience is so great!
This is what makes the experience at an arthouse so much better--the preshow is kept to an absolute minimum!

At an F1 screening that is essentially sold out. It’s 9 minutes after showtime and there’s maybe 15 people inside the theater. The obsession with lengthening ads and trailers has trained everyone to avoid their seats. At some point the studios genuinely need to think their policies are backfiring.
