1/ Are SPAs still the best choice for your site?
@csswizardry.com predicts a shift away from SPAs in 2025, as modern browser APIs like View Transitions and Speculation Rules make MPAs a more efficient choice for fast, smooth browsing. 🧵👇

1/ Is compression about to get a major upgrade?
@stoyan.me predicts "compression dictionaries everywhere" by 2025. By storing common elements once and sending only the unique parts, we can drastically reduce transfer times. Will you be integrating this? #WebPerf #Compression 🧵👇

1/ 🚀 Prediction 4: AI Takes Over Performance Optimization

@screenspan.net predicts "AI will play an even bigger role in how we surf, build, debug, and optimize the web"

Let’s dive into the key insights for 2025. 🧵👇

1/ Lab tests ≠ real user experiences.
@SiaKWeb and @KarlijnLowik predict 2025 will be the year RUM becomes the standard for understanding real-world performance. Synthetic tests miss what users feel, RUM doesn’t. 🧵 ⬇️

1/ 🚨 Is 2025 the year we crack INP for SPAs?
Soft navigations often hide input delays that degrade UX in SPAs. INP helps uncover these issues, making smooth interactions non-negotiable.
@tunetheweb.com & @kurtextrem.de predict 2025 is INP’s year.
Are you prepared? 🧵👇

Traditional optimizations make your site fast. But to truly deliver seamless experiences, sites must combine proven tools with speculative loading. It’s not a choice—it’s a strategy. ✨ #WebPerf

An additional tip: After the user has spotted the problematic LCP element, they can use the AI assistance to ask how the performance of the element can be improved, so you don't only find the problems with the DevTools, but now have the means to solve them as well 🤩

THIS.IS.SO.COOL! 🤯

Kudos @screenspan.net for the original idea! 👏👏👏

Such a strong start of the @stoyan.org's annual #webperf calendar, excited to see what the next days of performance will bring! 🎄
As a #webperformance engineer I often have to look at “waterfall charts” to see when network requests occur to spot bottlenecks. I wondered what they might SOUND like, so made a little tool to listen to them.

How does Web Performance sound?
While much of Web Perf is based around optimizing the visual experience, I started wondering: How does web perf sound?

This is good. The 5 minute heuristic was un-specced and a bit weird.

And seriously people, strongly consider adding even a short caching lifetime for your HTML pages! There's so many benefits!!! Is your content really that critical that you need it to be refetched each and every time?
Looks like Chromium is about to change how prefetches behave, so that only cacheable resources will be served from the prefetch cache: groups.google.com/a/chromium.o...

If you're prefetching your HTMLs, make sure they are actually cacheable, even with a short lifetime.
Intent to Ship: removing the five-minute rule for <link rel=prefetch>

Reading through the #WebAlmanac this week, one thing is clear: the need for innovation in mobile #webperf is growing. 📱
INP gives a clearer view of user experience, revealing that while desktop metrics remain steady, mobile performance for top sites (10K–1M) has dipped.
