a rare sighting - an Austral Pygmy Owl on a rainy morning. These birds are found only in the Patagonia region of Argentina & Chile.

This gentle giant was trying to woo a female turtle, but she wasn't in the mood! She led him on a slow motion chase, and cleverly escaped by squeezing herself through these shrubs. The male was much larger and got stuck, as you can see here! 😀

Galapagos Giant Tortoise, the largest in the world, one of the most impressive animals to see in person.

@mybirdcards.com - sharing another photo of mine, inspired by your recent Resplendant Quetzal post! 😀

This is the only RQ I was able to view in CR! Gotta try again to get a shot of that beautiful adult!

The most beautiful bird of Costa Rica! I was unlucky to not see an adult one, but lucky enough to see a juvenile which is not as stunning.

Thanks for the clarification. I should have guessed the answer wouldn't be that obvious! 😀

There's a 1 word name that I remember reading sometime for a cockatoo that looks like this, but I can't recall it right now

I believe this is the Pink Cockatoo, and I think it has other names too. Australia has surprisingly rich diversity of parrots & cockatoos!

I wouldn't have expected that color combination to work, but this tanager proved me so wrong! 😂

When your whole family is known for its good looks, but you still manage to stand out!

Flame-faced tanager (Tangara parzudakii), endemic to the eastern Andes mtns, is objectively the most striking among all Tanagers.

Icelandic Horses also have many unique characteristics compared to their regular cousins - special gaits, gentle & friendly disposition, pure breeding due to isolation, etc. And if one happens to leave Iceland, it's not allowed to come back!

The Icelandic Horse is much smaller than a regular horse, and they look cute!

It was a grey rainy morning, and this guy/gal was sitting on the ruins of a shepherd's cottage. I expected them to fly away quickly, but they stayed there for 15min. I guess they didn't feel threatened because there were only 2 of us and we stayed at distance.

Thanks! He kept up that stare for a full 15min... He was more patient with us than I expected. It helped that there were only 2 of us and not a big group.

I could feel him saying "any closer and you're dead!" 😄
