I recently caught a screening of Hard Boiled at my local indie theater and yeah - This is a John Woo signature as much as firing two guns while sliding down a banister/in slow motion midair or birds birds birds BIRDS!

(Also, Hard Boiled was fan-fucking-tastic in a theater, remastered in 4K)

On Saturday I had to explain to someone that the movie we just watched (A House of Dynamite, dir. by Kathryn Bigelow) WASN'T based on Nuclear War: A Scenario, evening though the, um, SCENARIOS are strikingly similar. Denis Villeneuve owns the film rights to the Jacobsen book (holy shit I AM A NERD).

I assumed it was just bc I'm 50 (I remember the Cold War & was scarred by watching The Day After when it aired) and grew up in an area (near the Hanford Nuclear Reservation in eastern Washington) that BRAGGED about being a "Soviet First-Strike Target." But is South Dakota festooned w/ICBM silos?

I came into this season hopeful that Darnold could be 75 percent as good as he was through 16 games for Minnesota last year.

Now?

I have no doubt that he is a franchise quarterback, nor do I doubt his ability to take a team to the Super Bowl and WIN.

I've had a fraught relationship w/wearing Halloween costumes for a while. Lots of weird gender stuff/feelings. So it speaks to my growing comfort w/myself, my non-binarysness, etc that my spouse + I are doing Ramona Flowers & Scott Pilgrim for Halloween - & I'll be Scott 😆😜🎃

RE: Me visiting Seattle. I visit often, 3, sometimes 4 times a year. I have many friends in town, but I remain eager to make connections w/trans folks/the trans community there (particularly trans women & trans fems). I will not leave Columbus unless forced to, but Seattle would be my landing spot.

Seattle people! I'm in town 10/16-10/21. I'd love to hear recs from locals about coffee shops, local food joints, movie theaters, parks on water, etc that are like, 1 notch more obscure than tourist spots. I'm crashing w/a friend in Burien, but will have a rental car/am game to hop on light rail.
