I really did have no idea so many people are into classic Mega Man. I thought the classic series was largely the territory of middle aged guys who are nostalgic for the NES.

I can only assume Tomb Raider is really popular in a country where most people don't speak English because I can't think of another reason why it would get so many games despite being a series I've seen nobody ever care about

Remember that the game award announcements aren't exclusive. People will spread the news. Articles will be written about them. Wario64 will post them all. You do not need to watch the game awards in order to learn about the cool stuff so there's no reason to watch at all.

There is something very wrong with how games are marketed because despite seeing tons of talk about it (including posts from the official account) I never once learned what genre Unbeatable was. I had to go out of my way to look it up and only then did I become interested in buying it.

I think some of the "gaming is so bad now" guys aren't evil or stupid, just uninformed. If you only focus on AAA games and all you see in the current landscape is prestige movie games and live service stuff then yeah, it makes sense to think games were just better in the 90s/00s.

Sometimes you see people critique games with phrases like "serotonin seeking" and "dopamine hits" which might sound like smart critique for half a second until you realize what they're referring to is the concept of fun
