I think its extremely special that Simon never discards or grows past using the Core Drill. It's extremely clear by the end of Gurren Lagann that he doesn't strictly need it. But he always holds on to it because spiral power is fundamentally sentimental.

just guessing but i think Knights of Guinnivere is probably going to be thematically about intellectual copyright and the concepts of "owning" a character, the way those characters inspire fans to do more outside the "owners", and the hostile force corporations wield to maintain complete control

I think there's probably something beyond hope. Once you overcome struggles enough times, to overcome is just an inevitable reality. You don't even need hope at that point, you'll march on anyway without even realizing. How you choose to feel about it is just a matter of taste.

I made a face rig for Sonic that can handle switching between side-mouth, front-mouth, or whatever. The weight painting is pretty shit and it'll need a lot more work for complicated facial expressions but it surprisingly isn't a complete topology nightmare.
