Like 25 years ago I remember a common scam was just cold calling people and saying "Mom / Grandma / Dad / Grandpa / etc" and saying "I'm in the hospital with a broken whatever and need your credit card number!! Hurry! Ow!" It apparently worked a lot.

I went to a horse track when I was about 18, bet on a "1-2-3 Combo" where you pick 3 horses. Two of the horses I picked ran into each other and broke legs and had to be put down on the track and the whole thing was of course horrific. I felt it was a sign and never really gambled again.

I don't think we do actually. Congress is effectively dissolved and SC is a rubber stamp. What power the States do have they seem to not want to use, or they don't actually have that power (ie National Guard/State Police not actually loyal to States, but to Trump).
