I don’t know how to pronounce the word banal. I feel like it could go a few different ways. This is what happens when you’re always reading stuff instead of talking to people like a normal person. I don’t want banal to rhyme with, well. Please tell me it’s like buh-NAHL or something exciting.

I was driving kids around all day and waiting on them at the mall so rather than sit around, I took myself on a date at a nice restaurant and got a pumpkin parfait with a gingersnap.

So I kept reading more and more southern gothic lit because it felt so familiar and I was trying to find myself and what I knew in books. It helped me see that the craziness I lived and loved was a part of something. It’s hard to explain but I still feel like this.

I think one of the many reasons I became an English teacher is because in 8th grade we read Welty’s “Why I Live at the PO” and I was going to this private school at the time in NY and felt wildly out of place and when I heard this story a light went on in my brain and I was like THIS IS MY FAMILY

I love getting good news. I found out today that my dear sweet cousin is having a baby and it’s a girl! And my other cousin is about to be the daddy to a little boy. So many babies coming!

I got my hair cut into a nice little pageboy bob and I am so happy with it this length. I felt a pressure, mainly from my mom, to have long hair all my life, but the truth is that I really prefer it a lot shorter!

I went to the beach this morning and stood at the edge because it was a high king tide that somehow created an uncharacteristic shore break. A wave knocked me down - which was fun and had me laughing. It was a pretty day. Later I went to IKEA for meatballs. Got a new pretty new reading lamp.

Remember the other day when I described the feeling of when a loved ones biopsy comes back as benign? It was nothing compared to how it feels when TWO of your loved ones’ biopsies come back as benign in the same week.

I can make you a sugar free version but it will still have some carbs. Both of my parents have been diabetic my whole life so I’ve got a lot of tips if you need. I can bring you a pie for Thanksgiving.
