one more #Fibonacci "found example" in my #sciart: the pulling vector of the hand turns out to precisely obey one of the major Golden Spiral axes compared against the horizon and my idiosyncratic cropping of the final piece. All unplanned but uncanny

Another #Fibonacci sequence #sciart example, showing a digital Golden Spiral overlain on my finished art. My personal theory is that this ratio represents a satisfying way for the human mind to visually "weigh" objects when making mental comparisons to navigate a composition or read a metaphor

Happy Fibonacci Day 2025 (!) I deliberately never use the Golden Spiral as a compositional template of any kind, but I find that many of my finished pieces of #sciart adhere to it. After pronouncing a piece "done," it's always eerie and magical to see things line up...

I worked w a great team of scientists to make #sciart for a new @kiss-caltech.bsky.social report focused on approaches for monitoring and modeling greenhouse gas mixing (!) Full report here: www.kiss.caltech.edu/final_report...

my new #sciart for @chistinesd.bsky.social: her research in @newphyt.bsky.social reveals arbuscular mycorrhizae in the stem of the early plant Aglaophyton from 407 million years ago, showing that fungal-plant symbioses are as old as the earliest soils. nph.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...

My #sciart for new research that explains how the loss of dinosaurs that kept forests open and sunny drove the evolution of larger seeds / fruits that provided more nutrients for seedlings to grow on darker forest floors news.nau.edu/doughty-dino...

My #sciart illustrates new research on how climate change is promoting spatially-synchronized locust outbreaks: increasing heavy rainfall events in arid regions (which creates new vegetation) is a trigger for locust swarms, which could increase by 25%: www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

My new #SciArt on the cover of a special Cancer Reviews issue of Genes & Development shows the deep spotlight that new research is pointing at the mechanisms of the disease, from mechanical to developmental: genesdev.cshlp.org/content/39/1...
