Where there is a will, there is a way.

Budapest will organise Hungary's Pride march on June 28 as a municipal event celebrating freedom. The move circumvents a recent law that allows police to ban LGBTQ marches. Since the march will be a municipal event, no permits from authorities are needed.

Nr. 5. It’s the economy, stupid: "If the Ukrainian energy threat materialises, Hungarian families' electricity bills will double and their heating bills will quadruple. We will not allow this to happen."

Nr. 4. The Trumpian peace mission: “We want peace. We don’t want a new Eastern front, so we don’t want Ukraine’s EU membership either”.

Nr. 3. Very official sounding: “EU support for Ukraine is just an excuse for Europe's war reorganisation. Let's not allow decisions to be made over our heads”

Nr. 2. Has the gangster-factor: “Gigantic cars, not very trustworthy-looking fellows. If Ukraine were a member of the EU, Ukrainian criminal gangs would be able to infiltrate Hungary unhindered. This must be prevented.”

Ukraine is the new Soros. Rating the Hungarian Prime Minister’s anti-Ukraine propaganda messages from the past few days. 🔽🧵

Nr. 1. Simple and straightforward: „Ukraine is a dangerous country”.

Legislation deluxe, Hungarian style:

Adopt a law that prevents people from assembling freely. When people protest against it, create another law to prevent protesters from blocking bridges in order to defend the rights of those who are not protesting.🤷‍♀️

On the day Hungary left the ICC, and the Israeli PM visited Hungary, about 70 journalists were invited to the press conference of Benjamin Netanyahu and Viktor Orbán in Budapest. Guess how many questions were allowed in the press room?

None. Zero. Nil.

In other words, the government has found the legal solution how to protect its ally from being handed over to Polish authorities, and – at least in theory - still comply with EAW. But how it will resonate in Poland and the EU, remains to be seen.

Rest assured; the HU government has found a way to protect him. They passed a law that will give the Attorney General the possibility to appeal any decision of surrendering him to Poland, after which the Curia can reverse or overturn the decision of the lower court.

The Hungarian police and government claim that political asylum gives Romanowski protection, but in reality, it is only up to a judge to decide whether asylum can override the EAW. But without an arrest, the Polish politician will not stand before a judge.
viktoriaserdult.bsky.social
Romanowski is under investigation in Poland for alleged misuse of public funds. Despite the European arrest warrant, Hungarian police have still not arrested him. This is clearly in breach of EU law.

❗SCOOP: Political asylum is not enough; Hungary has now changed its laws to protect former Polish deputy justice minister Marcin Romanowski from being handed over to Polish authorities.
