This was their 3rd album and their breakthrough. The band was under huge stress due to financial problems and had a car accident just prior to the photo shoot for the cover, which is why Kaye's foot is in plaster.

This album was much more psychedelic than other Traffic albums. The US version was quite different from the original UK version. It even featured a different cover, without Dave Mason, who had left the band.

Yesterday this was relased 60 years ago. It was highly influential. It contained only original songs. Capitol left out some songs on the North American version and added some that had already appeared on European records.
