High emphasis on, "like a cub hunting" because cubs aren't the best hunters yet. They make mistakes and are often easily caught by predator. So he wasn't late, Bam had already caught him

From the very beginning, Bam was naive, interesting, and so full of hope to find Rachel. So he decided that, if he ends Bam now, he wouldn't have to suffer and he would at least die with that hope. So he kills everyone he sees on sight until he gets to Bam +
