The red anatomical heart is the centerpiece of the artwork, being held in the middle of the picture. Veins and arteries make their way out of the top of the heart and go into different directions in the upper part of the piece. One vein makes its way almost to the bottom of the picture, being cut off before reaching it. The heart is covered in small and dark blood vessels and yellow pieces of fat tissue cover parts of the front of the heart. At the bottom of the heart a small hole can be seen with part of the tissue that was covering it hanging to the side, from the hole a few small cracks make their way up the form of the heart. The background behind the heart and hand is a red colour with different big brushstrokes varying in darkness of the colour. Surrounding the piece is a simple, drawn golden frame.

The frame features a decorative pattern, along with carved rabbits, and a lighter in the top center, engraved with the text 'This too shall pass'.
