Do you believe that the EU-US Energy Agreement can lower costs to consumers? In our IEECP article @ieecp.bsky.social we argue that if the same amounts would be spent on #EnergyEfficiency for consumers, the #LNG agreement would not be a cost-efficient solution. diplomacy.berlin/efficiency-f...

One dilemma from the Energy Efficiency First principle: Invest in fossil fuel in heating or rather renovations in buildings with heating decarbonisation? What should a regional plan opt for? lnkd.in/dYzE75Cb

The so-called split incentives problem in building renovation has been debated a lot in policymaking. How do the benefits of renovation accrue to a landlord or a tenant? Check our #RENOVERTY project Q-SPLIT tool with indicative examples. lnkd.in/drnmQqaW

By denying #climate change, you basically deny #science. The study "Evaluating the Performance of Past Climate Model Projections" (Hausfather et al. 2020) presents hard facts. #climatecrisis

Conversion losses in fossil fuel generation is often neglected in the current public discourse on energy security (and halting energy transition through renewable energy supply)...This figure shows the real picture of wasting energy through coal...

Generating electricity from fossil fuels is very inefficient.

Moving from coal to solar reduces primary energy consumption by 2/3 at the point of electricity generation.
vlasiosoikonomou.bsky.social
An interesting fact is that #RenewableEnergy expansion happens at a larger pace than grids and #EnergyEfficiency. To relieve the pressure on the grids, more energy efficiency is required globally, as social costs of efficiency are lower (if not negative) than energy production.

The global energy investment landscape has undergone major changes in the past decade – responding to the rise of new energy technologies and shockwaves from the pandemic & the 2022 energy crisis.

For the sake of energy security, #Greece allowed the drilling of its seabed for oil and gas. The tragic irony is that although being a pioneer in #RES Renewable Energy production, it cannot make use of this competitive zero cost advantage and locks-in to fossil fuels... #climate #adaptation
clientearth.bsky.social
🔥This summer has seen Greece sweltering in 43 °C temperatures and wildfires... and yet the Greek govt continues to offer fossil fuel companies access to its seabed to drill for oil and gas.

We're calling on the EU Commission to finally do something about it. 🧵

#Energy efficiency is core to increase #competitiveness in the EU industries. Instead of hiding behind #fossil fuel rhetoric with unexpected medium term costs, it would be more meaningful to reduce structurally energy use in industry and become competitive.

Last year, Mario Draghi released his competitiveness report. But high energy costs are still making it hard for European businesses to compete globally.

Here's how dire energy affordability looked across the continent in 2023 using 2015 as a baseline 👇

Is this the new reality that the Mediterranean countries will face? Is the #ClimateCrisis in its #tippingpoints already? Despite the #adaptation and #resilience measures in place, more efforts are required as the speed of disaster and natural restoration cannot cope with the measures' timelines..

The increase of the housing prices is directly related to #vulnerability of population and #energypoverty, as it correlates to expenditures and income indicators. How well are we prepared to tackle this dilemma (reducing energy costs without increasing housing prices?).

80% of respondents (strongly) agree that their government should do more to make housing more affordable. In each country from the #HouseINC survey (IT, DE, FI, EE, BE), more than 70% agree with the statement. Is it a sign for policymakers to act seriously? ieecp.org/projects/hou...

The housing pressure in the private rented sector is growing. We need clear policies to alleviate #energypoverty in the private rented sector, with fair distribution of costs and benefits to tackle split incentives between tenants and landlords. The #SocialClimateFund can set such policies! #EU

19% of households struggle to stay cool in summer and this number will increase. We don't discuss fuel switch or decarbonisation of heating, but rather efficient cooling systems, well insulated buildings and nature based solutions. Any good examples to share?
