Hey BlueSky, I’m V. I’m a #socialpsychologist and #apsiringauthor. I just finished my PhD and I’m looking to get back into sharing my creative work on my free Substack. I’ll post updates here about my recent #scifi works and I’m looking for other #writers to engage with! Let’s follow each other!
I try to stay present in whatever season I’m in, but then I’ll find a photo in my archives that makes me yearn for something from the past 😭
What if our sensitivity—this concern for others is the gateway to settling the dissonance caused by impermanence?
It’s easy to condemn the sensitive parts of ourselves— the parts that care more for others than ourselves. It’s definitely easy in the kind of culture we’re living in. But what if that part of us is just the part that’s connected to something greater?
I think this is where creativity for the sake of others is important— we create for OTHERS, not ourselves. So no, the good feeling won’t last for us. But it’ll last for the people who need it, and that’s worth something. Really it’s worth everything, I think.
Impermanence is both good and bad— good because the bad feelings don’t last. Bad because neither do the good feelings. So then, why write and share the work if the good feeling from doing so won’t last?
Had what felt like a huge breakthrough last night by video journaling my fears around creativity and visibility. Basically, I wonder if we just talk ourselves out of doing the things we love because we know the good feeling of doing the thing is impermanent.
I’m learning creatives need to practice acting on their creative impulses without asking too many questions. No, you don’t know where it’s going to end up, but a large part of the creative process is faith that the work will benefit at least one person, even if that person is you.
Question for fellow budding writers/aspiring authors: Are you writing both a novel AND short stories to submit to magazines to establish a publication record? If so, how do you balance focus and attention? Plz help 😭😭😂

Constantly reminding myself that writing is not who I am, but what I do to rediscover who I am.

Sometimes being a writer feels having such a strong preference for solitude that I have conversations in my head. Only, I think the conversations are so funny that (obviously) they have to be shared with everyone else.

If you don’t want to read Edgar Allan Poe together by candlelight whilst sharing dark chocolate cheesecake and a vintage bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon in an abandoned cottage in the Scottish Highlands during a raging storm, then please don’t tell me you’re “open to trying new things.”
Missing NYC a little extra this AM. I figured posting this old photo I took might inspire me to write about the feeling instead of drowning in it?

Something I wrote on “healing” and how we sometimes confuse the process with preparing to go into an emotional battle 😌

Check out the link in my bio!
And no, the irony of posting this on social media is not lost on me 😂😂
Finished another Procreate tutorial. Aside from the city landscape I made a few months ago, I think this one my have been my favorite to make ❤️❤️

Thanks so much Dan! That WIP sounds right up my alley! I can’t wait to read more 😃😃
When all else feels lost and confusing, I try to remind myself that I am an artist. A confused one 😅 but an artist nonetheless. I take photos of lamplights to remind me that art is my guiding light, even in the dark.

I’ve been #fillingthewell with #procreate and it’s been so much fun following along with YouTube tutorials and painting. I almost hated this when I finished it but looking again I’m quite satisfied
