The current state of my recording environment. #audiobooks #voiceactor
I had the great privilege of narrating the audiobook of _Personal Injury: A Corrupt Conspiracy_ by @scottjohniauthor, and now it's been released into the world! This fast-paced action thriller is a terrific read (and, I hope, listen)! Go grab your copy on Audible and/or Amazon! #audiobook
A for me! I actually like C a lot, too, but its (by necessity) vagueness compared to A and B made me prefer it a bit less. But if I hadn't seen A or B first, I would've liked C more, probably, if that makes any sense.
It's a busy time in my booth! Auditioned for the AHAB Halloween Audition Workshop, finishing prep for an audiobook, got shortlisted for a couple of video-game roles, graduated from coaching with Sean Pratt, and more! As one of my advisors used to say, "SLEEP?!? Sleep you can get when you're dead!"
Currently in the prep phase for my next audiobook: _Stellar Origins_ by Nicholas C. Hershey. This is a fun, fast-paced book with a unique blend of sci-fi and fantasy elements, unlike anything I've read before! Pumped to be working on this! Thanks to Nick for having me on board!
Absolutely thrilled to be learning from Jess Herring about how to find and reach out to authors whose books currently lack audiobooks in the current iteration of the Audiobook Empire's Outreach Initiative.

The 5th annual Utah Audiobook Narrators Conference last Saturday was mind-blowing! Thanks SO much to Emma Faye for putting it together and P.J. Ochlan (shown with me in the photo), whose eye-opening POV about POV I will be taking to heart in all my narration. #audiobooks #voiceover
One of my favorite quotes, and something I try to live by. Rather than letting errors or failures get to me, view them as lessons that teach you to not make those mistakes again. It's not easy in the face of impostor syndrome. There's another, more valuable perspective and approach to them!
Now entering the proofing and editing phase in my recording of _Personal Injury_ by Scott Johni. This is an amazingly fun book, full of terrific characters (who are challenging my narration skills in the best ways)! #audiobooks #voiceover
My finished audiobook files for 𝘚𝘵𝘶𝘥𝘺 𝘎𝘶𝘪𝘥𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘋𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘈𝘥𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘏𝘶𝘤𝘬𝘭𝘦𝘣𝘦𝘳𝘳𝘺 𝘍𝘪𝘯𝘯 by Steven Smith are presently going through ACX QC. I hope the book will be out soon and available for students everywhere who will be reading Huck Finn for school projects in the upcoming academic year!
RECOMMENDATION: if you're going to proof and edit your own audiobook narration, splurge on a really good desk chair in which you can sit comfortably for long periods. My cheap-y model, even with a seat cushion, make my tush ache after not very long... 😬 #audiobooks #voiceacting
My "secret sauce" apparently isn't so secret...
It's been ages since I've read Huckleberry Finn, but I'm learning a lot of new perspectives about it, and having a really fun time, by narrating _Study Guide for Decoding The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn_ by Steven Smith (published by Sherwood Press)!
Had a riotously fun time with my VO accountability group, Accountabilibuddies International™, last Saturday! This is an absolutely frabjuous group of people! #voiceactor

A few weeks ago, my wife & I went to the supercross finals in SLC. It made me think about analogies with voiceover. Both:
* require coaching, practice, & skill.
* can be grueling.
* require financial investment.
* are rewarding.
But don't try voiceover anywhere near motorcycle races...! #voiceover
Great conversation today over on Clubhouse (as there is every Wednesday) about all things audiobook narration! Highly recommend @anaclements.bsky.social's Narrators Assemble group if you're not already in there, as well as Brian Telestai's Narrators' Workout on Mondays!
In addition to being an actor, I'm also a paleontologist who has published many technical papers (most recently journals.library.ualberta.ca/vamp/index.p...). This background really has helped with non-fiction narration and knowing how to research material so I have a firm understanding of it.
I'm quite beside myself to be a finalist for a 2025 One Voice award! I am deeply honored thank all the folks at the One Voice Awards for their consideration. And I also must thank @anneganguzza.bsky.social for her incomparable coaching and direction!
