UK TV has been creating trash on this level for at least the last thirty years now. At least.

These kind of ghastly shows come and go so quickly, everyone forgets and is newly aghast when they cycle back into existence a decade or two later.

Based on cave-dwelling organisms, they have gone pale and started using echolocation before they got naturally bushier beards.

Plus they'd need to have been digging for several million years rather than the few thousand this guy's imagining. Evolution happens sloooooooowly

On top of this, why are non-Christian uses of a Christian symbol less important than the Christian uses, especially if they're more widespread?

I'm not a Catholic, so why should I be bound to use symbols their way? Should I be forbidden from doing so? Should art always kneel before history?

I've never understood descriptivism. It's like looking at a map of Pangea and saying the UK shouldn't exist.

Use determines meaning. The academic recognises this, catalogues and archives histories, then accurately describe changes.

Especially so with symbols, all of which are, by nature, metaphors

Oh, of course. It's not obscure *if* you're a Catholic.

But you shouldn't be too surprised that a symbol which has featured prominently in many cheap Hollywood horror films and similar stuff is more widely recognisable as a symbol of evil than of the Vatican.

Again, usage defines meaning

Unfortunately, use determines meaning. Consider the swastika - it's not a symbol of peace any more, nor will it ever be. The meaning of the inverted cross has changed now. Symbols are just language, and language is constantly in charge. It's just life 🤷🏻‍♂️
