The dissolve transform from Earl Owensby's "Wolfman" (1979), also shot in NC ala "Silver Bullet". Owensby made 40+ films, and his archived website claimed a "Wolfman 2" was being developed. AWiL / The Howling resuscitated a near-dead genre 2 years later ...

Lou himself would sit in the monster makeup chair five years later for A&C Meet Dr Jekyll ... or at least some of the time, when his stuntman wasn't sitting in for him.
