There’s nothing like listening to the grunts of a bison herd, especially anywhere east of the Mississippi River! It made for the perfect final stop on our summer road trip!

Oh, the struggles of doing research for the new route in our second edition. This is really tough work! 😎

Pro Tip: Fold your mirrors IN when you park your new camper van on a busy street. It will help you avoid expensive repairs!

Today, we had an excellent guided tour at Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site by the Park Ranger on duty (I want to say his name was Nate Cahill???). We spent just about an hour walking through the various elements of this late 1770s-1880s iron furnace.

The National Memorial Arch at Valley Forge National Historical Park is both a striking tribute to the difficult winter the Continental Army endured and an interesting piece itself, drawing inspiration from the Arch of Titus in Rome.

As we do every year, tonight we celebrated our 15th Anniversary in a new city. This year, we celebrated in Atlantic City at Il Mulino. We look forward to many more years of never celebrating in the same place!

Today, we followed the Delaware River along the borders of New York, Pennsylvania and New Jersey, visiting three NPS sites, including our 350th, Delaware Water Gap NRA! While we still have a lot of sites to visit, we have seen amazing NPS sites in every state!

After two nights in a hotel in Hartford, it’s great to get back out camping! Besides, you can’t beat the view from this farm we found on Hipcamp!

Happy Independence Day from the Adirondacks! We spent today exploring this unique combination of public and private land… we even found this amazing waterfall right at our campground!

Today, Grant got to live out one of his Olympic dreams: he got to shoot where the winter biathlon athletes train! He shot well, too! He hit 3/5 on the much smaller prone target (4.5 cm)! Bonnie hit 4/5 on the 11 cm target!

The Adirondacks are also home to the John Brown Farm State Historic Site, where the famous (or infamous) abolitionist is buried. It was interesting to see how Brown is regarded here versus what we were taught about Brown in high school as Southerners.

The bobsled simulator at the Lake Placid Olympic Center was sooo cool. It is amazing how fast those sleds go!

Ahhh… can’t beat a cold beer on a beautiful afternoon looking over Lake Placid from the Crowne Plaza… because, sometimes, you just want a nice hotel rather than shower houses at a state park!

Gotta love grilling out on a beautiful afternoon at the campground!

We totally understand and agree!
There’s something really special about being in the (restored) room where it happened. This is the Wesleyan Chapel in Seneca Falls, NY. In 1848, this is where the first Women’s Rights Convention was held.

Located off Seneca Lake, one of the Finger Lakes, in Western New York, Watkins Glen State Park is a must visit! while you are there, hike the Gorge Trail, which follows this narrow gorge by 19 different waterfalls!

If there was one thing we weren’t expecting to find in Western New York, it’s bison! But here they are at Mud Creek Bison Ranch! Aside from being able to see the bison, they also have a restaurant with a full bar and a pretty good sized dance hall/concert venue!

Today is all about visiting the oldest state park in the country: Niagara Falls! This place truly is spectacular! We made a point to get out on the Maid of the Mists for an up close and personal look at the falls!

Today, we took a cruise on the Erie Canal in Lockport, NY. Traversing the locks was a really cool thing to see… amazing to see human ingenuity in action.

This is the spot… the spot where Theodore Roosevelt became the 26th President of the United States. Following the assassination of McKinley, Roosevelt was sworn to the office in the Ansley Wilcox House in Buffalo, NY, now the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural NHS.

Ahh, the coelacanth of modern telecommunication: the fabled pay phone! It’s been years since we last saw one (McCall, ID) in the US! This specimen was discovered at Four Mile Creek State Park outside Buffalo, NY!

What better way to spend #Juneteenth than touring the home of Abraham Lincoln?

We made a quick stop today at one of the newest National Park sites: New Philadelphia National Historic Site.

This site tells the story of Free Frank and Free Lucy McWorter, formerly enslaved folks who started their own town in 1836 to help free their children!
