What, to a liberal, is this Fourth of July? It is a day of mourning, for the promise of a nation that could be, and (imperfectly) was, but has been murdered in plain sight. Murdered by a selfish, greedy, man, with the complicity of selfish, weak people in government and in the voting both.

App designers need to think through their security verification process better. I'm on a cruise ship 100 miles from the nearest land. All I have is data through ship Wi-Fi, and they want to text or call me with a verification code. HOW IS THAT SUPPOSED TO WORK WHEN I DON'T HAVE VOICE SERVICE?

Every so often I see someone who thinks the 25th Amendment should be used to revive trump, since impeachment has been proven not to work. What those people fail to appreciate is that the 25A is MUCH harder than impeachment. 1/

US app designers apparently have no concept of international travel. Try to log in and they send a verification code. To your phone number. Which doesn't work abroad (in many cases) or aboard a cruise ship (at all).

MAGA, and Republicans before them, have fetishized "privatization"as the solution to everything. How is taking a situation and adding a profit motive while degrading an existing solution somehow supposed to be beneficial to anyone with the problem that's allegedly being "solved"?

The US desperately needs a real opposition party. Although individual Democrats are stepping up, the Democratic Party overall is MIA. "I will fight for yoouuu (please donate)" is sucky messaging.

The job of the DSCC and the DCCC is to get the BEST Democrats elected to Congress. Yet they operate as if "best" = "incumbent". That's how we end up with timid incumbent Democrats pursuing bipartisanship for its own sake, who are useless in the current five-alarm Constitutional crisis.

Only 32% of eligible voters (22% of the US population) installed this sociopath. He has even less support than the Nazi party, which took over when it got 42% of the vote in 1933. And he's doing more damage, faster, than the Nazis

Much like bankruptcy, the death of a country occurs gradually, then suddenly. For the USA, Jan 20, 2025 marked the inflection point between the two. Much like Jan 30, 1933.

It's becoming more blatant by the day that Republicans don't believe in "the consent of the governed". The latest piece of evidence is that trump is (reportedly) preparing a blanket pardon for around 1200 J6 insurrectionists - over the opposition of law enforcement and over 60% the public.

The aspirational "United States of America" that many boomers and GenX-ers learned about in Civics and US History classes (before they were sanitized/eliminated) is not dying, it is being actively murdered by broken people with the consent, or acquiescence, of a majority of voters.
