Species Spotlight: Bog Rosemary (Andromeda polifolia)

Bog Rosemary is a species of coniferous shrub that grows 30-60cm tall. It has leaves that are glossy, deep green to blue-green with a pale, fuzzy underside, and which are narrow with a pointed tip.

#DYK that some of Canada's wildlife turns white in the wintertime? ❄️

This adaptation allows these species to better camouflage themselves from predators in the white landscape. Come spring, their fur will slowly transition back into their typical colours. How cool is that?

Species Spotlight: Black Raspberry (Rubus occidentalis)

Black Raspberry is a prickly deciduous shrubs species that can grow to 1.5m tall. The leaves are alternate, have pointed tips, coarsely toothed margins, and the underside is covered in silvery hairs.

How well do you know your snow? ❄

There are 5 broad classifications of snow:

- Powder snow is soft and fluffy in texture. 
- Slush is heavy and wet. 
- Packed snow is powder that has been compressed  
- Corn snow is granular in texture
- Finally, graupel has pellets that resemble tiny snowballs.

2025 was a momentous year for our Nature Discovery Backpack program: in total, we launched 7 new libraries! 🎉

Amounting to a total of 60 new backpacks, this expansion will provide 2,000 children and youth with hands-on environmental learning and exploration opportunities.
