Holy shit, I'd never seen this
52 years ago, Monument Park at Yankee Stadium was actually on the field and those three giant stone slabs were in play. Seriously.

This composition had eluded me for nearly a decade, but yesterday I was finally able to capture it. A train rolled through just as the Duquesne Incline was crossing over the tracks in #Pittsburgh, creating a picture perfect winter scene. It was worth the hours and hours I've waited over the years.

This shit makes my blood boil. Fuck him and fuck this. Immigrants are awesome, other cultures are awesome and we're all better for having been exposed to them.
Trump: "It’s a hellhole right now. And those Somalians should be out of here. They've destroyed our country. And all they do is complain, complain, complain. You have her. She’s always talking about the Constitution provides me with – go back to your own country and figure out your constitution."

On a scale of 1-10, how stupid am I for considering taking out a loan to fund a trip to Sphere for my birthday at the end of April?

If you know a student journalist in Appalachia, we're looking for a 1-2 more dispatches for a project for 100 Days in Appalachia, an independent nonprofit newsroom. 400ish words, $150, not a big reporting lift. Deadline is tight (Dec. 8th) but would love to get folks published/paid! DM for details.

the literary form of the modern American conservative movement, the mold by which that TPUSA dunce's writing seems to have been shaped, is the Facebook comment section. AI is the "aesthetic" of fascism; "I didn't read the article but I'm mad about what I think it said" is the prose.

So yeah, this is fundamentally about trans people and that cannot be elided, but the ways in which junior faculty are targeted and disposed of, while academic jobs are increasingly precarized, and political grandstanders seek to influence academic governance are fucking terrifying for everyone.

I named my fists peanut butter and jelly because that's a yummy sandwich and I don't understand how this game works
I named my fists Cyro and Baptista because you never know what they're holding before they hit you.

(The John cage one below is already perfection btw)

FYI: Nathan Rabin needs your love and appreciation right now. He was in a very significant car crash earlier this week and is in the hospital recovering. (His family was also in the car, they’re fine, but he got the brunt of the injuries.)

Now’s a good time to support him: www.nathanrabin.com

Fascinating stuff (and yeah, obligatory note that AI is a stupid label, this isn't an LLM etc)

But once again, this is also about substituting mere prediction for explanation. Understanding is overhead to capital, predictions are all it cares about. Capital is trying to get rid of science

Yes, well put. I don't want to say there's no tradeoff - having your favorite team lose because of a blown call really does suck - but the net impact of replay has been negative from the perspective of fans bsky.app/profile/like...
Like a lot of things, the idea of replay (prevent outrageously incorrect calls) has given way to the actual practice of replay (litigating pixels and rulebook legalese) which enshittifies sports.
I would totally abolish all instant replay reviews if it were up to me but also this how-many-angels-can-dance-on-a-pin shit about losing possession or failing a catch because you bobbled the ball for a fraction of a second is absurd bsky.app/profile/joel...

I am so enormously thankful for essentially every person I know and have ever met, and for everything they have taught and given to me. The good, the bad, and the unspeakable. It all counts. The trick is to remember to pay that debt forward to everyone you meet from now on. ❤️
