Lamont D. Davis, of Spencer, faces charges of first-degree reckless homicide by delivery of drugs, manufacturing or delivering fentanyl, possession of a firearm after a felony conviction, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

But the 15-year-old girl was not a teen at all. Instead, police say Shawn J. Lamoore was communicating with undercover investigators when he arranged to drive to Wausau for a meetup.

Mary Johnson Mary Johnson, age 84, passed away on December 7, 2025. Mary was born in Wausau, WI to Myron and Mildred (Liese) Breitenstein. Damakant Jayshi The Wausau City Council on Tuesday approved holding the Water Works utility’s 2026 payment-in-lieu-of-taxes (PILOT) at $1.59 million – a move city finance staff said would prevent further increases in water rates tied to the community’s rising utility asset value. Under state law, municipalities may charge their water utilities a “tax equivalent” similar to what a private utility would pay.

During public comment, two residents urged the council to deny the extension and return the district’s revenue to the general levy pool to provide taxpayer relief.

Damakant Jayshi The Wausau City Council on Tuesday narrowly approved a conditional forgivable loan agreement with the Judd S. Alexander Foundation for redevelopment of the former MBX property. The loan proposal surfaced several weeks after a Sept. 23 Council vote to buy the contaminated riverfront parcel at 201 N. First Ave. for $900,000. The purchase was financed with Tax Increment District 8 funds and support from the Alexander Foundation.

The Northwoods League and Madison Night Mares have announced the inaugural Northwoods League Softball All-Star Game will be held at Warner Park the weekend of July 11, 2026. Northwoods League Softball will have six teams during the 2026 season. Wausau Pilot & Review WAUSAU – The Wausau Newman Catholic boys basketball team surrendered an eight-point halftime lead and lost a nonconference game to Northeast Wisconsin Christian Homeschool Athletics Association 61-47 on Monday at Newman Catholic High School. The Cardinals led 29-21 at halftime, but were outscored by 22 points in the second half and falls to 1-3 this season.

WAUSAU — A John Muir Middle School eighth-grader got the opportunity of a lifetime to not only speak at the annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony at the Wisconsin Capitol, she got to light the tree. With Gov. Tony Evers at her side Ellie Mason lit the tree named The Learning Tree. “When I imagine the Learning Tree, I picture a tree with many branches, sticking out in every direction, each one helping me climb a little higher," Ellie said during her speech.

WAUSAU - CASA of Marathon County will hold a festive gathering in December to ensure children involved in the CASA program experience the joy and magic of the holiday season. Party With a Purpose will be held at 3:30 p.m. Dec. 10 at the Dudley Tower. Employees from many businesses and agencies, a first-time involvement with the program, will wrap holiday gifts for 48 CASA children and stuff stockings for 150 children in Marathon County foster care.
