Due to the chaotic way I “organize” my tools, my wife bought her own (purple!) measuring tape a few years ago. She’s lost it though and, wanting to differentiate it from her sewing tape while also being a book nerd, just asked me to help her find her purple “hard bound” measuring tape. 😍

We were prank gifted four pink flamingo lawn ornaments over the summer. Yesterday I decided to give them a 🎃seasonal upgrade🎃.

While I don’t generally love traveling for work, I do love finding little local gems like The Meteor - a gorgeous art deco diner / wine bar / bicycle shop (?!) that serves a great breakfast and is currently playing an excellent trip-hop playlist as I wait for my avocado toast.

Another piece I finished a while back, but I love it so much. It’s made from very precious mouth blown glasses that I am likely to never see again once I run out. They’re so rich and clear, with such perfect textures. The lead lines in this are the fold lines from the paper crane hanging above!

I finally moved personal website off of Squarespace and onto @astro.build hosted on GitHub pages. As someone who tested my HTML in Mosaic early in my career (yes, my beard is gray, why do you ask?) I have to say that Astro was a joy to learn and the full site was completed over the weekend.

I cannot properly express how cool it feels to own art created by @stonkers.bsky.social If you knit you should 100% grab one of these kits so you too can bask in this feeling!
I’m restocking kits today! I now have DIY knitted dissected frog kits and DIY knitted lab rat kits available, and they’re on sale 20% off through the end of august!

There are days, as a developer, that I feel like a skilled craftsman honing ideas into elegant code. Other days, like yesterday, it’s more accurate to say I was a digital persistence hunter, bashing at the keyboard until the win32 API finally keeled over in exhaustion.

@alsobrooks.senate.gov can you please share what drove you to vote for the crypto scam GENIUS act? It does nothing to address the kind of scams and conflicts of interest issues at the core of crypto. The bill is a give-away and only helps a scam ridden industry with little redeemable value!

A few weeks ago I randomly won a prize in #PolyPalooza from @polymaker.bsky.social and all my filament arrived today! 🤩 Looking forward to putting this to some good use!

With *gestures broadly* everything, my attention span for reading has been dwindling so I’ve been making an effort to fix that with “Everything is Tuberculosis”. It’s fascinating and often sad, but it’s also honest and hopeful in a way my heart really needed. Thank you @johngreensbluesky.bsky.social

The slow, painful process of replacing the old magnetic pad on my 3D printer was going ok and then I heard a funny popping noise... I couldn't tell what happened and nothing SEEMED broken, but a beat later one of the z-axis linear bearings split apart and spilled tiny bearings everywhere. UGH.

I FINALLY dialed in our old Ender 5 to be able to print damn-near perfectly across the full print bed with PETG. No blobs, no strings. I know a current generation printer can do this pretty easily, but I really want to stick with this thing until the wheels fall off.

My son has loved gymnastics since his preschool classes. He’s good too - his shelves are full of trophies and medals. But the last few years have been rough. Harder skills, puberty, and coaching changes lead to far fewer trips to the podium. But he’s got grit and earned his first trip to Nationals!

Since it looks like I’ll be protesting all this idiocy for a WHILE I grabbed a cheap, lightweight LED sign to hack on. Last night I came up with what I wanted on the backside and just finished gluing it up before I head downtown. #teslatakedown #handsoff

I'm comfortable enough with who I am to share that today on YouTube I ran across a 24 minute documentary on the history and engineering of washers and my immediate thought was "Well I know what I'M doing tonight!".

The crew running the Georgetown, DC #TeslaTakedown event really did it right! Their big sound system made for a non-stop dance party! Plus, the folks running the event all wore captain hats so you knew who to ask questions. We got TONS of support from pedestrians and drivers! I’ll be back next week!

It’s a lovely spring day here in DC. Perfect weather to get outside and save our democracy at the #TeslaTakedown protest! See you there!

Just finished talking to my financial advisor about getting that “musk-y” smell out of my investment portfolio. Musk may make an EV but in the end fascists always end up hanging around gas stations.

Tonight we’re playing our inaugural game of Arcs. We’re just wading into its web of interconnected game mechanics and it’s a real brain burner… I can see why it’s won so much praise!

I’m hoping my senator @alsobrooks.senate.gov can explain her vote today to loosen reporting rules for cryptocurrencies. At the very minimum, every rule that applies to other financial instruments like stocks should apply to crypto. Legislating otherwise is a vote for fraud.

Spooky Science Lab is back with a new episode! This week:
Nick introduces listeners to the horrifying horsehair worm, a water-dwelling parasitic organism whose brutal lifecycle puts its insect host through hell, culminating in the worm's unique ability to compel its host to drown itself. (1/2)
