Today’s critter is a Great Horned Owl sitting on a suffering sycamore limb behind the backyard. Wasn’t bothered by twigs tossed to Mia.

Today’s critter is a Common Snapping Turtle. With almost 5” of rain in <24 hrs, it was out and about.
A ~12” snapping turtle is crossing the road. Rain gauge on a fence post shows ~4.9” has fallen.

He greatly benefited from running against an incumbent universally disliked for his first term. His hands on approach with COVID briefings and rebuilding after tornadoes/floods increased his victory margin in the second term. I’m in KY and like him for VP, cabinet or senate before top job.

Today’s critter is a Carolina Wren on the patio. It’s the State Bird of South Carolina and was featured on the back of that state’s edition of the 50 States Quarters.

Happy birthday! Got mine today Covid on the left and flu on the right.
A Walgreens bandage on my left arm shows where I got the COVID vaccine. A Walgreens bandage on my right arm shows where I got a flu vaccine.

Today’s critters are Butterfly and Bumble Bee pollinators enjoying a weed that’s in the row of trees planted this spring. Sound off unless you like tractor noise.

Today’s critter is a Harnessed Tiger Moth. From Wikipedia “Despite their warning colors, they are preyed upon by bats, which rely on echolocation to hunt. The moths' vibrant colors serve as a visual deterrent, signaling to potential predators that they are distasteful.
A moth with a vibrant black/orange/red body and sharp white stripes on black wings is on the patio.

I think I can figure out why the tractor overheated while bush hogging.
The front grill of a 32 hp John Deere tractor is covered with broomsedge fluff.

Robbie got the corn off Jones Bros Road today. Kinda dusty with <.4” since July 18. Yield monitor going 200+ with 16.5-18% moisture. Lucky to have it planted April 16. If you missed that window had tougher conditions.

Today’s critters are Song Sparrows. Spotted the nest/eggs a week or so ago but all I could tell about the parent was brown and small and I’m guessing Song Sparrow. Surprised nesting this late. Today Mom came back with a grasshopper so the kids have hatched. And I’m proud I guessed S Sparrow early
