Maybe it is my background in Sufism, but I also prefer seeing Hermes Trismegistus as a human spiritual guide (who became divinized) and the eponymous founder of what we now call the Way of Hermes. It is not his way, as the path to the divine existed before him, but was later named after him.

If we want to call this path after a founder, than 'Agathodaimonism' or 'Nousism' might fit better as these two taught Hermes.

The spiritual teachings attributed to Hermes Trismegistus are categorized under the label “Hermeticism.” Yet, a critical look at the historical hermetic texts reveals this label is not only modern but possibly entirely foreign to the tradition it tries to describe.

Hermeticism and the Kybalion are two spiritual traditions that have gained popularity in recent times. Many people think that they are connected. Hermeticism is a philosophy that originated in antiquity, while the Kybalion is a modern New Age book. Is there a link?

Beautiful rendition of hermetic wisdom, and Hermes the Thrice Greatest.

Yes, perhaps our journey begins with longing, then transitions to entanglement, and ultimately to connectedness, but the Divine may work in reverse: First, it creates something to connect to, then it creates something to entangle, and finally, it creates a longing in the sincere seeker.

Having the experience of total, unlimited Oneness can make it easier to recognize or maintain focus on the One while living an embodied life in duality. To see the immanent *and* the transcendent in different perspectives of reality. To be able to hold paradoxical views on reality at the same time.

So, then it becomes:
"What you realize, is realizing you?"
That can work.

The saying by Mevlana Rumi reminds me of him saying that the reason one is thirsty for water, is because water is looking for the thirsty. Maybe the water's longing happens before we get thirsty and is the reason for it.

Thank you for this very interesting article. But a - or the - question remains, namely in a monist philosophy (like wahdat al-wujud) it is understandable why we are seeking the divine, trapped in matter and with amnesia, but why is God seeking us, when He already *is* us? Are we not already found?

It maybe shows how strong the ego is connected to the body.

Our world is saturated with spiritual consumerism. Objects, altars, and robes are marketed as essential for our practice.

The Hermetic texts reveal a surprising truth. We need no special place, altar, or garment to reach the Divine, only a purified mind and heart.

Not sure who said or wrote it, but normal daily activities, done with focus on the divine and out of love for creation, can also count as prayer. Unfortunately, we live in difficult times where Sophia is more hidden than ever, and where even modest daily practice can be a struggle to do, or do well.

Many people experience a deep sense of emptiness. This is referred to as the “Crisis of Meaning”. Many experts consider it the central problem of our time. A possible answer to this malady may lie in the teachings of the great sages Ibn Arabi and Hermes Trismegistus.

In an age increasingly defined by fragmentation, isolation, and a profound search for meaning, the wisdom of both the Sufi mystic Ibn ‘Arabi and the Egyptian sage Hermes Trismegistus offers a radical…

A daily spiritual practice gives a sense of eudaimonia that cannot be found elsewhere. Connecting with the divine, even for a mere 5 minutes, has no substitute. Certainly not being active or passive on social media.
Engaging with the divine brings light. Engaging with the world takes light.

Practitioners of Hermeticism’s radical monism can find eudaimonia even in these troubled times, viewing humanity’s ecological and political crises as divine Justice.
We experience the consequences of what we have done to the earth and all living beings on it. Let us learn from this divine reckoning.
