Doing research for this story (about how many iguanas were killed in FL www.accuweather.com/en/winter-we... ) led me to the final NCDC records for the FL Cold Outbreak 1/30-2/2, 2026. More than 100 cold records were set/tied including 22 MONTHLY & 1 all-time at Daytona Beach (19 F, lowest >1962)

While the country is no stranger to tropical cyclones this time of year, the city hadn't been directly hit with a Cat3+ since 1994. City is ~size of Pittsburgh.

Temps from NC down to FL are as much as +45 degrees higher this afternoon than this morning. Statesville, NC (since 1998) is at their #2 all-time calendar day rise (so far) at 45 degrees.
