The way I recall it, Hungary receives Western (=EU) financial support. So by that standard, Hungary should not behave "as if it were completely sovereign", right?

Natürlich ist klar, wo Haaretz politisch steht. Dennoch liegt man mit dieser Einschätzung wohl richtig.
Apropos Jimmy Kimmel: stimmt, er lag daneben. Das ist aber kaum der Maßstab für einen Satiriker. Er ist ja kein Nachrichtensprecher. Und offenbar sieht auch Disney ein, dass man hier überzogen hat

Of course the Soviets and China fought and incurred huge losses. But the way I hear her, she talks about the various interpretations of WW2 history. And there, reasonable minds can surely differ. But to insinuate that Kallas is ignorant about WW2 history is frankly a bit ridiculous.

The USA made it quite clear what they thought about the strike in Qatar:
“Unilaterally bombing inside Qatar, a sovereign nation and close ally of the United States that is working very hard and bravely taking risks with us to broker peace, does not advance Israel’s or America’s goals.”

Hoover war kein Heiliger, alles andere als. Aber er hat das FBI professionalsiert. Und es gegen direkten politischen Einfluß von Aussen geschützt. Dass Hoover seine eigene politische Agenda hatte steht auf einem anderen Blatt.

Die Wahrheit ist, fürchte ich, dass Europa von Donald Trump in Sachen Ukraine wenig bis gar nicht erwarten kann. Je schneller das verstanden wird, desto besser. Daher Schmeicheln von mir aus ja, aber gleichzeitig alle Weichen stellen. Und nicht glauben "that Donald Trump will come around eventually"

Great story in @haaretzcom.bsky.social about Rabbi Yosef Blau who co-signed a letter calling on Israel to assume "its share of responsibility" for Palestinian civilians in Gaza. His answer to a critic who said this letter might fuel antisemitism: "I think not taking a stand increases antisemitism."
