This is so bleak, damn.
This is the strategy:
Still pretty proud of this one.
QRT with your black and white art. From my sci-fi noir comic "Bugman's Blues"
Having finished Starfish now I can say it feels very 1999 in its fears of putting trust in technologies we don't understand. I'm curious to see where the series goes.
Kind of reminds me of William gibson, where they'll throw out a metaphorical description and say figure it out. "The TV static sky" from necromancer for example.
Watts is much more sparse with his descriptions, leaving it up to the readers' imagination to determine what things look like or are.
I really loved the world of the scar, which is another nautical setting with lots of really imaginative ideas. Intricately described world building.
It's been a bit of a break neck turn coming off of reading China miéville to watts in terms of style.
There are so many fun ideas in blindsight like vampires being an predatory evolutionary offshoot of humanity, vr cults, etc. All felt pretty strong thematically too
I think I enjoyed blindsight more than starfish so far (I'm only about half way through), mostly because I think I enjoyed the more crazy far future.
Peter watts hard sci-fi book starfish's ontario science centre mention now makes it's future outdated rip
I think I forgot something in the glove compartment
