Wilton has some really good piping tutorials!

It's wild what people can do with piping & I think there are some really cool possible applications!

I wanted to see if I could bring my cake decorating skills to the pottery studio & pipe decorations with slip. Definite proof of concept!
A pair of ceramic earrings hanging on a vintage earring holder, in front of a vintage pink jewelry box. The earrings are a pink clay hearts with blue glaze, made to look like little heart shaped Valentine's Day cookies with piped icing strong the edges.

Porcelain sculptures for a far-away friend when she was going through a hard time. Meant to remind her that our households share love, even with an ocean in between us... but that I sure wish she was next door.

I left them mostly unglazed because of the lovely snowy softness to porcelain.
Handmade ceramic sculptures of houses on cliffs, made of white porcelain. Mostly left completely unglazed, one sculpture is two houses set apart, with a body of water made of deep blue glaze between them. Suspended by wire between the houses is a bright red glazed heart. The second sculpture is completely unglazed, and it's two houses so close together they share a wall. The houses make a little island. Solo sculpture of the two houses set apart, all porcelain white except for a body of water made of deep blue glaze between them. Suspended by wire between the houses is a bright red glazed heart, symbolizing that our love even crosses an ocean. Solo photo of the all white, unglazed sculpture of two little houses on an island. Photo of the two sculptures together. The smaller one sits to the back, slightly out of focus.

Working on wall pockets for air plants in the pottery studio. They're unglazed inside to retain some moisture but with a hole in the bottom so they don't get root rot after soaking.

Also planning to make them as magnets for the fridge. We have a LOT of air plants in this family.
An air plant in a ceramic holder that hangs on the wall. A tiny purple bud is on the air plant.

💀 Skull mugs... my first mugs actually, a gift for my husband who collects skulls. Thrown on the pottery wheel, details added when the clay was soft.

It's morbid, but it's really pleasing to hold these with one of your thumbs in an eye socket lol 💀
A handmade mug in the shape of a skull. The eye sockets are indented. Photo is filled out with a big skull candle, small carved stone skulls & crystals. TWO handmade ceramic mugs in the shape of skulls. The eye sockets are indented. One skull mug is bigger than the other & has teeth for more detail. Photo is filled out with a big skull candle, small carved stone skulls & crystals. A handmade mug in the shape of a skull with more experimental glazing. The eye sockets are indented. An apple & peach bowl I made in the pottery studio, to play with my underglaze pens. I loved how the speckled clay worked on the apple.
A scene showcasing a ceramic apple bowl thrown on a pottery wheel & then shaped. It has a tiny stem. The rim is red mimicking the skin of an apple & the speckle clay is only glazed with transparent, to mimic the flesh of an apple. Two seeds are hand drawn in glaze at the bottom. Behind the apple bowl is a figurine of a gnome feeding a mouse & in the foreground are two small red apples. A photo of the same apple bowl & gnome music box from the previous photo but viewed from above. There is also a bowl shaped like a peach, with a hand drawn pit on the bottom of the bowl.

I sure love a warm bowl of soup & a speckled clay!

Can't wait to show this to my friend who joined the studio just to make bonsai pots & is now trapped in our evil pottery studio web!

That thing is ginormous!

A sweet little ceramic mushroom wall shelf for sweet little tiny things.
A handmade ceramic wall shelf made by a pottery student. It is glazed pink with a white shelf. The motif is two amanita mushrooms with 2D white stems carved into the clay & 3D hand sculpted red & white spotted caps create little umbrellas over a tea light candle. A tiny brass cat sits on the shelf with the candle. The nail hole is a hexagon. The same ceramic pink & white amanita wall shelf from the first photo, but in low light with the candle lit. It creates a nice glow & sends soft shadows onto the white wall.

I have spent most of my week in a new (to me) pottery studio, and oh my gosh, it is soul-healing, haha.
If you think touching grass is good, go make something out of mud. LOL

Jane Goodall lived a life of science, purpose, & good works. We were so lucky to have been here on earth at the same time as her.

I feel blessed to have grown up with her example of doing hard things for good reason & forging your own path even if it means walking alone while people catch up.
A young Jane Goodall sits against the trunk of a tree & reaches out to a baby chimpanzee who is reaching out to her while looking up at her face. Both look at ease. The photo is in black & white.

Lovely little kiln haul from a while back
6 handmade pottery items, only one of which is glazed. The glazed item is a small trinket dish, glazed in a deep red poppy pattern with hand drawn details. The unglazed items are a varied assortment, there's a bowl shaped like an apple, a ring holder, a small plant pot, a miso bowl & a banana slug.
