#OnThisDay in 1866, a peaceful Black voting rights convention in New Orleans was brutally massacred by a white mob. Nearly 50 people were killed. This tragedy fueled the fight for the 14th Amendment.

🚍 1953: Despite 80% of Baton Rouge’s bus riders being Black, buses were still segregated.

#OnThisDay, the United Defense League (UDL) launched the #BatonRougeBusBoycott with a “free ride” network of Black volunteer drivers.

The Montgomery bus boycott would adopt its model in 1955.
