Peter – my apologies. I misunderstood at first to which poem you were referring. And you are correct in your statement above – the "if" is a typo for "of." My sincere thanks for your patience and for directing me to my error here. I will making the correction shortly.

Thanks, Peter. The line uses a figure of speech called Zeugma, which uses one verb for several subjects or clauses.
