I'm actually mad about how a lot of the conflict in Metaphor: ReFantazio stems from actual, well-written racism because this game is so insanely popular and I know it went over a bunch of people's heads somehow

I think some folks feel as though being able to "help" means solving the problem. If their help does not directly solve the problem they think it isn't worth it to even try. That trying to make things better around you means nothing. That's just not true.

Well demons in general have very broad and diverse designs and definitions depending from place to place. Shin Megami Tensei would be some good inspiration for you
