Yes, I'm enjoying the ribbed detail on the heel and the way it fits my high instep. My partner uses the Strong heel exclusively these days.

A little sock action for socktober week on #ShowMeYourKnits
Both socks are based on the Vanilla is the New Black pattern, and both are close to the toe.

Two top-down short socks with a ribbed back of the Strong heel being knit on separate long circular needles. Top sock is a self-striping yarn from West Yorkshire Spinners, with stripes of pheasant colors: red, green, blue, orange, and gold.
Bottom sock is worked in a purple and white handdye from a farm booth at a festival.

Autumn is just beginning to show at the arboretum, the leaves mostly still green. Pumpkins help set the mood, and looking close reveals changes taking place.

I went to the #arboretum recently but haven't shared evidence! Here are a few highlights.

A sun-drenched open hut lined on the outside with orange and white pumpkins. More pumpkins are lined up on the grass behind it. In the background, the left side is shaded by a great leafy tree, whereas the right side has a couple trees that have sparse branches, allowing the sky to show through.

The magnificent katsura tree trunk stands under the canopy of its own still-green foliage, each of nearly twenty branches separating at the base, so that the distinction between branch and trunk becomes blurry.

The katsura tree is viewed from further away, still enveloped by its canopy. There is room enough for a sizeable party under the tree, as the branches don't break into smaller leafy sections until they are far from the trunk. Many of the magnificent branches reach upward, but a couple reach outward and bend back toward the ground, requiring signs to remind people to resist the urge to climb onto them. Great roots wend their way from the trunk, as twisty and beautiful as the branches.

Peeking out from under the backlit katsura leaves, their fan-like vein structure mimicking the tree's general shape.

In honour of the occasion, I am ignoring all other socks in progress & starting a fancy pair of colourwork/ cable socks for myself 💅! Seward Socks by Caitlin Hunter in Exmoor Sock

An acquaintance reached out for a prayer square with a heart, and I'm so grateful she did.

I did a thing this week that I've wanted to for some time: canoe on a river in the pine barrens. The best part is I did it with a friend. While I was waiting to meet up, I got a bit of spinning done, which I try to always keep handy. Not pictured: all the trees we had to dodge.

I usually default to spinning from a worsted style prep, but my heart is with spinning woolen preps. I'm currently spinning this Falkland top dyed by Fuzzyfrog Fibers by teasing out a single staple length and folding it over my finger. Works great!
