Colin was rescued as a tiny baby, and now at 7 years old he towers above everyone here at Woodstock Farm Sanctuary. Colin needs to schedule his regular hoof trim and so do 11 of his friends! Help us cover the cost of this appointment for Colin and the other rescues on Venmo at Woodstock-Sanctuary !

Thank you, thank you to everyone who advocated for him back in Spring 2023. Many local folks know Franklin and care about him a lot. And thank you to Beth and Diane at Squirrelwood who loved him and gave him the care he needed...and his first cow friend.

It was surreal to see Franklin here in our pastures after visiting him in a tiny enclosure where he had no cow friends and no room to roam. Unfortunately, the injuries he sustained left visible marks and he has chronic hoof issues.

But a couple of months ago, Squirrelwood announced they were facing closure and needed to urgently rehome their herd. We are very committed to Franklin so, even though it's a hard year for us, we reached out to offer him and his best friend Ruthie a home again.

Squirrelwood has done a great job caring for him including needing to hospitalize him pretty immediately to get treatment for an untreated medical issue. We were so glad he was at a good sanctuary (and with other cows!) but didn’t think we’d see him in person again.

And because of so many of you asking for the right thing to happen for Franklin, he was sent to Squirrelwood Equine Sanctuary in a neighboring county.

We offered to take him in in 2023 and had a spot in our cow barn all ready for him but were told he wasn't going to leave the petting zoo...so we asked the public for help applying pressure and getting him out.

We were worried about him and knew he needed a new home with pasture, a real barn, and cow friends.

That's why he has the huge scar on his head. He had lived there from when he was a calf until he was eight in 2023 without being around other cows which is so sad for a herd animal.

In 2023 he was at a local petting zoo run by the City of Kingston NY and we were very worried about him. His space was a small lot that was mostly dirt/mud, dangerous and inadequate for a cow and he kept falling and hurting himself.

Recent arrivals Franklin and Ruthie are doing well! They are enjoying the fall weather this week. It's SO nice to have them here and makes us feel very thankful and emotional. We have known Franklin for years and it feels so great to see him in the pasture with his friend.
