Good question. I’d argue that their apartheid South African identity very much shaped their worldview, coming of age, and —based on their current support of far-right anti-democratic movements— is still influencing their outlook.

Every mainstream media outlet should be running specials on the history of anti-fascism in Democratic societies. I would even go as far as the anti-fascist ideals of the US founders.
