1. Who/what built it? It might be a mining town, a
trading post, a university town or something else. The
more specific, the better

2. How did it die? Resource exhaustion? Natural
disaster? Economic collapse? The end determines
what's left behind (like treasure!)

3. What's still there? This determines your loot, plot
hooks & atmosphere.
