As I near forty-one years of age I don't feel a midlife crisis approaching. What I do feel, which is probably something to do with ADHD meds as well, is the desire to take a year's sabbatical and let out an absolute primal scream of all the things I've wanted to do.

I've now seen the end of Guillermo Del Toro's Frankenstein and it all but moved me to tears. As someone who lives with trauma and also a great deal of regret, this was an adaptation that affected me deeply. Utterly beautiful, and a triumph for everyone involved. I'd doff my hat if I was wearing one.

Away for a few nights and actually managed to get in a little writing time. Just enough to hammer through a thousand words and put some clear space between me and a blank page first page.

So, I'm a strength sport hobbyist and I love the sports generally, been following them all my life, and controversy around the World's Strongest Woman 2025 is dismaying. Worse is the anti-trans bullshit explosion that's come with it.

That first line of a new project is such a tricky obstacle, made no easier when you've almost nailed it and people keep talking to you... Wear big headphones, kids! These little ones don't give your head the right "DO NOT DISTURB" vibe!

Dismayed by the attitude of tech companies towards AI and its access to basically everything we do, as well as how in programs like Word it's irritatingly meddlesome and utterly shit.

Long day and a long week, and there's nothing quite like the welcome you get from a dog. You could literally walk in covered head to toe on shit and while everyone else runs for cover he'd run up wagging his tail, wondering what genre you'd rolled in.

Nowhere near Redditch but if you are, this is a cool thing that is happening, also I did recently read Brutal Kunnin and thought it was the absolute boobies. Writing orks well is definitely a tricky balancing act (goofy but DEATHLY serious) and I do declare, twas nailed.
We have a graphic for the event this coming Saturday at Redditch Library at noon, where I'll be with the inimitable @garethlpowell.bsky.social and @annasmithwrites.bsky.social to discuss crafting sci-fi and fantasy! A local bookstore is bringing stock!
